Bug in Studio 2019 with Find/Replace dialog?

Hi everybody,

I noticed the following behavior in Studio 2019 (which did work in 2017!):

When I search for a term in Studio with the Find/Replace dialog hitting Ctrl+F, change what I want to change and then continue translating in the last segment and I THEN close the Find/Replace dialog (clicking on "Close"), the cursor jumps onto the last word the dialog had found instead of simply closing it and stay in the segment that I'm writing in.

Can anyone reproduce this? It's a nuisance because if I leave the dialog open for a while and close it later, I have to return to the last edited segment instead of simply continuing to work...

Thanks,
Markus

  • Hi Amit,

Ali just tries to help and she dedicates much of her free time to it! I'm grateful for it! No need for inappropriate comments here!

    Hi Ali,

I'm confused now. Yesterday you said this behavior was intentional and now you say you can't reproduce it?

Thank you but I don't want to reset my settings every time there's a malfunction, I just went through a series of trial-and-error with the termbase stuff. I will try to live with the fact that Trados with every new version brings more features (useful or not) but also more malfunctions/bugs... :-(
(another bug that I share with other users I discovered yesterday that the shortcut "Ctrl+A" for highlighting everything doesn't work sometimes - after a restart of Studio it works - and another bug with the termbase is that sometimes it reads in the TB window that there's no entry found (although there are!) and after a restart of Studio it works again...).

    Have a great weekend,
    Markus
  • Hi

It's OK,  was helping because he included a link to  who certainly can help better than I [;)]

Sorry I didn't explain myself very well. I hadn't noticed that the behaviour you reported doesn't actually happen on my system. I had only noticed that the last word searched with the Find Tool remains highlighted until the Find Tool is closed, which is a result of the change folk asked for, better highlighting of the searched text. I shouldn't really have replied to you because I'm reeeeeallly busy and therefore not as thorough in my research of a solution as I would normally be, but nobody else had tried to help.

Thanks very much for saying you're grateful, that's lovely!

The quickest and best way to be sure your termbase interaction is good is to make sure that your version of MultiTerm is up-to-date and, very important, the correct one for the version of Studio that you are using.

Actually, it is very sensible to use Windows Repair now and again, especially after a big Windows Update, for any complex software. Part of its function is to iron out any symptoms caused by the interference of resulting non-deliberate Windows (or indeed any other) software changes. You do not have to lose all your settings, you can export your profile settings and import them again after you've run a Windows Repair on Studio and on MultiTerm's components.

This can be done in Studio via File>Setup>Manage User Profiles. The only potential downside of this is that if it's your setup that's causing the malfunction you might reimport it again with your profile. But then you can always reset again...

Windows Repair is useful. My perception of it is that it's tidying up any mess resulting from the Update or Upgrade Whirlwinds ;-))

Anyway, enjoy the rest of your day and have a good weekend!

  • Hi Ali,

Yesterday I had another remote session with SDL support. The guy re-installed Trados completely (what I had also done before) and then made "Reset Window Layout" - suddenly it worked. I restarted my PC and it still worked, also this morning after turning on my PC. :-)

But - the big "But" - it's like with your car when you bring it to the mechanic - they repair the fault but return your car with one or two other faults... :-(
Now I have bold letters in the translation window and the concordance window on the source side! When there's no translation in the TM and Trados searches for an MT, BOTH sides (source and target) are bold! I can only change the size of the font in these windows, not the style! How can this happen? Any ideas??? This doesn't only happen on the current project but also on older ones... :-( Looks really weird...

    Thanks again,
    Markus
