Updating wrong TM language direction

I regularly check corporate server-based TMs as we are 5 employees updating them and in the beginning I found errors made by the others. One of major issues are TUs of wrong language direction in the TMs. I have to spend time deleting them one by one and the work that somebody has put in is nearly gone. However, I noticed that lately all the project TMs settings and language directions are okay, but for some reason the LT-EN TUs appear in EN-LT TM. Here's our translation memories list:Screenshot of Trados Studio showing a list of translation memories with language direction flags, including TM_IFRS, TM_HR, TM_IT_Advisory, TM_Legal, and TMS_VAS with correct language directions set.

I wonder, what is the reason for wrong update if the TM language direction is chosen correctly? Or am I still overlooking something?

  • Hello  ,

Thanks for the screen shot- visuals always help when trying to understand the issue.

It appears that you are using GroupShare - so it is actually quite normal to see multiple language pairs/directions under each TM.

As you have already stated, the project settings are correct- which should mean the translator does not even have access to the incorrect lang pair/direction.

One theory as to the cause of the problem here could be and one worth checking-

    1) Translator A is using ANYTM (added to the original project) and is then adding the result (from the ANYTM) to the main TM- which then could explain why this is happening.

Maybe its worth checking the actual TM's and to see if these segments that are being overwritten/incorrectly uploaded, are originating from the same source.
