SDL Trados Studio 2017 SR1 - 14.1.10015 44945 functionality

Question

I just downloaded and installed the latest version (see above) of SDL Trados Studio 2017. When I now modify, save and then close one of the files belonging to a particular project (package), I am returned to the list of projects rather than the list of files within that project. 
 This was not how it worked before and does not make sense to me. Is this really how it is supposed to work?

This issue seems to have miraculously resolved itself overnight!!! I've no idea why, but it seems to be working ok now and it definitely wasn't yesterday. 
 
Yesterday, I proceeeded just as I always have. In the list of Projects, I selected the project concerned by double-clicking on it. This gave me a list of files to be translated. To translate one of these files, I double-clicked on it. When I finished, I selected "File" and then "Close". Instead of taking me back to the list of files in the current project (as I would normally expect), it took me back to the list of projects. I tried this with previous projects in my list of projects and it was just the same, so I immediately thought that perhaps there was some bug with the updated version of Trados Studio 2017 that I had downloaded. 
 
Today, however, everything seems to be back to "normal" (whatever that is)! When I select "File and then "Close", I am returned to the list of files.

Can you provide the steps you go through to open the files in the first place? Explain as if you were telling this to someone who had never used Studio before.
