Error message "Failed to initialize view "EditorView" "

Question

Dear all, 
 I tried to open a file in Studio 2017, but I received the above mentioned error message. I tried several solutions mentioned in the Community and Knowledge Base, but nothing worked. 
 Can anybody help me with this issue?

Hi Friederike Oeldorf 
 Here are some questions that need an answer before anyone can help you: 
 
 When you say 'open a file' do you mean open for translation and what type of file is it? 
 Is it in a project? 
 If you're talking of an SDLXLIFF document, have you opened it before? 
 If not, will it open in the original format, e.g. If it is a Word document, can you open it in Word? 
 Is this happening with one specific file or is it a general fault?

Good to provide some answers to the questions from Ali, but this problem is usually solved with a reset. You could use this app for the reset and this will also explain what you will lose by carrying out a reset before you do it: 
 
 appstore.sdl.com/.../ 
 
But if you'd rather do this manually then rename this folder (just add _old to the end or something, it's not important what you rename it to) and restart Studio: 
 
c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14.0.0.0 
 
So the path would become this: 
 
c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14.0.0.0_old 
 
If you can't find this folder then you need to unhide your hidden files/folders: 
 
 www.howtogeek.com/.../

Trados Studio > 1. Trados Studio
