Text import problem

A client has just sent me a file for a quote. It is a poorly-formatted financial document that appears to have been converted from a PDF. The original document must have had Excel tables in it and these are converted as Word tables, with the text being accessible for translation. However, Trados Studio 2019 does not import the text in the tables. If I try to edit the embedded object, I just get a message that the object is corrupt, which is doubtless why. However, MemoQ imports this text with no problem at all. Can anyone suggest anything that can be done to get Trados to import this text?

    It was a Word document, but clearly resulting from a poor PDF conversion.

    I found a way to solve the problem. Just save the Word document as a PDF, then import that into Trados (doing a round-trip pseudo-translate to check all text handled). This solves the problem and would probably be a good general workaround in case anyone sees this problem again.

    I do not think Trados is at fault here as it cannot be expected to handle documents that contain corrupted data objects. MemoQ seems to have a different way of extracting the data from the tables but both tools clearly have their strengths and weaknesses.

    The error message was "This object is corrupt or no longer available".
