TM searches slow following batch edit

Question

I recently did a complete re-install of Studio and MultiTerm because, amongst other things, searches in the TM had become really slow. We're talking minutes. 
 Things were a lot faster so I was a happy camper but then today I ran a batch edit to replace some outdates terms and bam, TM searches are taking minutes again. Tried restarting Studio which didn't help and I'm loathe to do another clean install, I have quite a lot of custom segmentation rules and I can't save those so I have to recreate them *every* time. 
 Has anyone had this experience with the effect of a batch edit on the TM and more importantly, how to fix it?

Why do you have to recreate segmentation rules whenever you do a clean install? These rules are in the TM and this should not be affected by a clean reinstall. 
 
You could also create Language Resource Templates that contain your rules and then you could recreate new TMs on the basis of these templates when needed.

That doesn't really answer my question at all. You said you have to recreate segmentation rules. I don't get it because they are on the TM so why would you need to recreate them? You can also create Language Resource Templates which can be used to recreate a TM. I feel like I'm repeating myself though... perhaps you didn't really express your question in the way you meant it?
