Error when opening target word document in Studio 2017

I have just come to the end of a translation of a very large Word document in Trados Studio 2017 and am unable to open the translated file. The error message says:

"We're sorry. We can't open [file name] because we found a problem with its contents".

When I click on 'Details' it says:

"The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag"

What does that mean?! I have read similar queries on here where the suggested solution is to remove the table of contents as a possible way around this.  The ToC in this document is huge and if this is really the only way around this it is going to create a huge amount of work for me (this comment aimed at SDL!) Presumably once you've done that you then have to manually re-type it - can that really be correct? The document itself is full of tags and formatting in addition to the ToC.

Any help gratefully received.

  • Hello Jessica Adler (JessicaAdler),

Maybe as a work around you can try the following-

Use the old Microsoft Word 2007-2013 file type instead of the new Microsoft Word 2007-2016 file type.

    >Open Studio and go to File > Options > File Types

    >Deactivate the new Microsoft Word 2007-2016 and activate the old Microsoft Word 2007-2013 file type in your settings.

<Re-import the Document for translation via File > Open > Translate Singe Document

    >Run the Batch-Task PerfectMatch so as not to lose any potential translations you have already made before noticing the issue.
