SDL Trados Groupshare

Question

Is SDL Trados Groupshare a tool on its own, or do I buy a network license for example and add groupshare with it so I can have access for different users simultaneously?

Groupshare (GS) is part of an overall solution. 
There are three components of GS- MultiTerm Server-Project Server and TM server. 
You also need at least one Studio Professional license (management purposes) and then a number of CAL's (Concurrent Access user Licenses). 
Then as long as the external 'translator' owns Studio- they will be able to work on GS projects.
