One setting for all projects possible?

Dear all!

Can anyone help me with the project settings in SDL 2018? I'd like to save just one setting, so I don't have to select the TMs etc. over and over again, which is very time consuming. Especially the Language Cloud machine translation takes ages to load. I just need one identical setting for all my files all the time.

    File -> Setup -> Templates
    In such case, with changing TMs you really need to create own templates.
    To do so, chose a configured project and use the button "Create project template" from the Projects view. This way you will only need to chose the template in the new project wizard, add files there and set up a project path.
    Using the single document (or drag&drop) approach, however, will always force you to chose a TM, if you do not use just one setup per language pair.

    Hey Jerzy,
    Sorry for my very late reply. I have created a template now, but I don't know how I can use it in the projects. What is a Project Wizard? I open all my files directly from my e-mail-account. Then they appear in trados and open one after the other and selecet the settings (TMs and a glossary) for each file. I work on up to 20 files a day and have to select all the settings over and over again. Where can I select the template, that I have created? Thaaaanks for your help! Kat

    Perhaps the first important point here is you have to work a different way as this isn't a good practice.  You need to create Studio Projects to be able to work with project templates and this means saving your files from your email account to some sensible folder structure first.  Maybe organised by customer perhaps?

    Dear Paul,
    Thanks for your help. I have been trying so often to create a project this way, but I always get the message that the project doesn't contain any translatable files. Also, I can't change "referance" into "translate". I really don't understand that. I get the files from my client in the sdlppx format as a package. Could that be a reason? Best, Kat

    Dear

    Yes, that would be exactly the reason. If you receive an sdlppx file then this is a zipped up project that has been created already by your client. So you would open this in Studio with Open Package, or double click it, and this will create your project for you. So you won't see the Project Wizard descibed by Jerzy and me.

    But in this case you can still use Project Templates to add the TMs and Termbases you wish to use to those defined by your Client. There is a neat application on the SDL AppStore called Apply Project Template which you read about here:

    This allows you to overwrite, or merge, parts of the project settings defined by your client. So if TMs, or Language Cloud settings are the things you want to use then you can apply a template set up with these settings and merge them into those provided by your client.
