Some questions for the developers

Dear trados developers,

After so many years of updates that have made Trados a giant program in size and charging so much money, it still works like ***. This conclusion was made by me after many years of working with it and almost all of the other CAT tools. Here are the questions:

1. Some doc/docx files are just NOT supported well. Trados refuses to export translated files when it happens. And I have to resave that file (often from doc to docx) using MS Word and translate that file again from the beginning. WHY?

2. When importing a large xls file, it may take years for the program to finish. I often could not wait and just killed the process. Why?

3. It lacks of many useful functions, such as generating translated files with paragraph-to-paragraph or sentence-to-sentence bilingual format, built-in and out-of-the-box MT translation tool, free online TM and so on. I'm shocked that even a free CAT tool ( http://pe.iol8.com) can do all these things. But I don't use that tool quite often because of privacy. The trados developers seem not very interested in these functions. Why? PS, another function I would mention is AutoCAD files support, but I think you definitely won't make it happen.

I do not need to be answered. Please answer to yourself.

That's a good question.  What version of the software are you using and have you ever investigated these problems with support?  Usual problems relate to security software corrupting temp files for example.

I have no idea... can you share a file and we can investigate it?

I don't think this is a really commonly requested feature... but you can do it using this app that takes advantage of the plugin architecture that Studio provides:

Another not too often requested format but there are a few tools around that specialise in this.. maybe use TransTools for example as this can extract the tranlsatable text in a format any CAT can use and then insert it back afterwards:
