Hi all, any thoughts on the following appreciated. I have a translation on hazardous waste incineration and a question about the terms ‘cendres’, ‘cendres volantes’ and ‘mâchefers’ in the following sentences.

La conduite du four consiste à contrôler et à stabiliser les conditions de combustion (température, qualité des mâchefers…)

En plus des particules de métaux dits « lourds » pouvant être entraînées par le flux des gaz, (voir intro paragraphe XI) ces métaux peuvent également se retrouver dans les résidus solides de combustion (mâchefers, cendres volantes).

According to the company’s glossary, ‘mâchefers’ is translated as bottom ash. However another translator believes the correct term is ‘clinkers’, since the term ‘cendres’ also means ash. However I’m wondering if ‘cendres’ in sentence 3 is just shorthand for ‘cendres volantes’, ie ‘fly ash’ in sentence 2, so we can translate both ‘cendres’ and ‘cendres volantes’ as ‘fly ash’ and ‘mâchefers’ as ‘bottom ash’.
