Studio 2019 - error message when trying to create new projects

Question

I've installed Studio 2019 recently on a new machine and with existing projects everything works fine. 
 
 Today I tried to create a new project. When hitting Ctrl+N I got the error message: an error occured whilst determining the file version. The usual wizard didn't open. 
 Any ideas what why this is happening and how to solve it?

Could you post the entire error message please? This often helps find the cause. 
However with such messages, maybe simply rebooting your machine and restarting Studio will be enough to resolve the issue. 
Often id computers are left on unused for longer periods, such errors can appear. 
 
Let me know please if a restart helps. 
If not please, post the full error stack and let us know the exact file type you are using.

It sounds as though your default project template is corrupt. This could happen if you tried to use the same template from an older version for example which is a bad idea... or it could just have become corrupted for some reason. This article may help:
