Turn off italic

Question

Hello, 
 Is it normal in Trados Studio that, unlike in MS Word, italic can only be turned on using Ctrl+I and turned off by Clear Formatting?

Normal for Studio, yes. The tag handling is consistent and all tags are dealt with the same way. If you always display the tags it becomes easier to handle as you can remove tags to clear the formatting too. These articles might be helpful for you:
