Auto save in Trados 2017

Question

Hello, I am using Trados 2017 and I notice that each time I save my file Trados automatically saves an extension (like a backup copy) of the file in the XLIFF format. It also does the same with the memory. Is there any way to disable this? I have already unchecked the autosave function but this still continues.

As you are probably aware, no matter what the source file format you use, 
the default working file format is always SDLXLIFF and therefore SDL Studio always creates the bilingual SDLXLIFF file which you see in the folder. 
The SDLXLIFF is also very important, should something go wrong and you need to recreate the project or TM for instance. 
 
Is there any reason why you would want to disable such a function or why you would not want to update your memories?
