"no reference to the project is known" and "Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

"no reference to the project is known" and "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" errors when opening Word files and trying to add a TM to a project. This happened suddenly. I have Studio 2017 SR1 14.1.10009.15268 and Windows 10. Thanks.

  • Hello Blandine Washington (airboss123),

This could be related to a corrupted entry in your projects file

Can you rename your projects.xml file to projects.xml_old or something similar. Then restart Studio.

You can find this file here:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\Studio 2017\Projects\projects.xml

You will lose the list of projects in Studio, but not the projects themselves. Now add them back in again one at a time by using the Open Project command (Ctrl+O) in Studio and browse to the location of your projects to select the sdlproj file for each one.

If this does not help then please uninstall and reinstall Studio ensuring that you are logged on as ADMIN.

Please let me know if this helps.
