SDL Trados 2015 in Mac environment

Dear everyone, I am thinking of betraying Windows for Mac:)  Would appreciate your advice on how to proceed with SDL Trados 2015 license in the Mac universe. Many thanks and have a great day & upcoming weekend.

  • Dear You, if you wish to use Trados Studio on mac, you should use a virtualization system (virtual box or parallels or vmware fusion).
A virtualization system is an application that can run windows inside a dedicated "window" inside mac.

I use parallels. It runs a windows 10 machine (64 bit) with just studio on it. I save projects in a mac folder accessed thru the virtual machine.
Everything else is done on mac.

As for the licence I would suggest to return it to SDL in the windows machine you are using right now, then install it and reactivate it as new installation inside the parallel application on mac.

Having windows used for a single purpose makes it very reliable and secure, on Macos there are some very useful utilities to manage files, text and other things.

So, IMHO, the betrayal is feasible, but you'll have to get used to the apple environment and the new setup. It will take some time and effort.
Also be sure to spend money in a mac with plenty of memory (RAM) - 16GB would be top, and 512GB SSD hard disk.
