Question

Hi, 
 
 I got this error when I tried to open SDL Trados Studio 2017 today: 
 
 What could cause this error? And how can I fix it?

Once you are complete happy everything is fine then you can safely delete it. It won't do any harm, but it is superfluous to your needs if everything else is working fine.

I don't think this is related to plugins. Try a reset. Rename this folder (just add _old to the end or something, it's not important what you rename it to) and restart Studio: 
 
c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14.0.0.0

Yes you should complete the setup. The project details should be in your sdlproj files and not these ones so you should be ok. At the moment you can't even get into Studio so this has to be worth a try. If you still have problems though please log a case with the support team and they can help you out tomorrow.

You have two options: 
 
1. Submit a case using a webform 
2. Use live chat to get a licence reset 
 
You want to use the first option.
