As this thread is over 2 years old, it's quite likely Paul won't see your request. So...
If you want to attract someone's attention, even someone as omnipresent as Paul, it's best to use their active link rather than just their name as that sends them an email to let them know they've been mentioned. This is either achieved by copying and pasting their active name link from above their post or by typing @ followed by their name in lower case letters without spaces - sometimes the surname works better, it depends how many profiles exist under a given first/surname. For Paul, it works best if you type @ immediately followed by filkin Paul Filkin
An active link that looks like @ Paul (pfilkin) will appear. Hit space or enter and the link will appear properly once you've finished your post and clicked Reply.
To answer your question, 'whitelisting' is actually a jargon term that means adding a piece of software or its various functions and/or file formats to the antivirus exceptions list or as some software calls it the whitelist of your antivirus/firewall, so that the antivirus/firewall software on your computer doesn't interfere with its progress.
It's called 'whitelisting' because it's the opposite of 'blacklisting'. Thus, you're telling your security software what programs/functions/file formats it can trust.
This is referred to in the following article in the SDL support pages, though it doesn't tell you where your antivirus exceptions list is because that depends on your software:

Normally you don't have to do more than add just the Studio and MultiTerm exe files to the antivirus exceptions list. The instructions for this will be available from your antivirus provider and they vary depending on who you use.
However, considering the symptom you describe, you may find that simply running a Window Repair on Studio will make it run correctly...
