SDL Trados Studio 2017 error message: Object reference not set to an instance of an object!

Hi,

I am getting the error message "object reference not set to an instance of an object" whenever I try add a term into the termbase in Studio 2017.

I reset the window layout, ran a repair and even reinstalled the whole program and updated it, but nothing helped.

Can anyone suggest a solution please?

    Hi Ivan,

    First of all I'd make sure I was up to date:

    SDL Trados Studio 2017 - 14.0.5889.5
    SDL MultiTerm 2017 - 14.0.2184.3

    That may resolve your problems, so do that first.

    Hi Paul,

    The error message file was created on 28.04.2017!
    Today I ran the repair, reinstalled Studio and updated it, but the error continued to appear.

    Hi Ivan,

    In this case have you tried reorganising your termbase? It should't need this, but also try changing to a different layout, so the Flags layout for example.

    If nothing else helps can you share your termbase so we can rule out a problem with that?

    Hi Paul,

    The same error message appears when I try to add a term into a new termbase with no terms in it.

    Another strange thing happens in Studio: When I try to create a project via Translate Single Document, the buttons Create/Use TM do not appear and the field where the TM appears is grayed out.

    What happens if you try to add a term in Multiterm directly, so not through the Studio interface?

    I can add terms in MultiTerm. This error message appears only in Studio.

    Hello Ivan,

    ok, a couple of things. First of all can share the error stack you are getting with CU05 installed. Would like to make sure all the details are exactly the same.

    Secondly, can you try changing the layout to something other than the new default. So use the Flags Layout for example in the termbase viewer and see if this helps.

    Hi Paul,

    I'm posting the error message from Studio 2017 with the latest update.

    There's also a screenshot of the Translation Memory and Documents Settings window, which is greyed out.

    I cannot change the layout of the termbase viewer. There's a text in the window: "No open termbase". As you can from the screenshot there's a termbase attached to the project.

    Hi Ivan,

    ok - I have logged a case on your behalf as I think this is going to take a support engineer to investigate the problem with you. You probably had a notification already, it's this one: Case number: 00261524

    In the meantime can you confirm whether you have another termbase, that may be set as default, on your Project? If you do try disabling it and work with one termbase only. Does this make any difference?
