Unable to open Word documents in Studio 2017 with Windows 10

Question

Hi, I can't open Word files in "translate single document" mode in Studio 2017. I know there was a similar question a few days ago but I have Windows 10, not Vista. I don't get an error message but the screen only shows the options for picking a source and target language, and below that a blank space where the TM options should be. When I click "OK" nothing happens, the screen just freezes.

This is very strange. What happens if you set the languages to the ones you need in File -> Options -> Editor -> Languages? 
 
Can I log a support case for you so we can have an engineer take a look at your system?

Aha, yes that works! When I set the languages that way first and then open a single file, the TM dialogue box shows up right away as it should. Strange but I'm happy it works, thanks!

I may be going out on a limb here- but you mention files (plural) as opposed to file (singular). 
Are you trying to open multiple files? (in translate single file mode?). 
If this is the case- please create your own project- into which you can add multiple files and resources. 
 
If this does not help- can you share the file with me?

 Sorry about the delay. 
 Thanks for the file- 
 I have been able open the file and can work with it without any problems at all. 
 Therefore I might suggest you could be using an old template that needs removing/replacing or editing-

To create a new Project Template-

Hi Marie, 
 
Can I check that you followed through on the advice from Steve and checked your project template? Perhaps reset your template and try again? 
 
Delete your default template, which is probably here: 
 
c:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\Studio 2017\Project Templates\Default.sdltpl 
 
Then restart Studio. See if this helps and also make sure that your default is the Studio "default" default and not one you created and set as your default. Also try resetting Studio as this is often the culprit for all sorts. Rename this folder (just add _old to the end or something, it's not important what you rename it to) and restart Studio: 
 
c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14.0.0.0 
 
Let me know if any of this helps and if it doesn't then we'll arrange for a support engineer to take a look.

That's good... can you describe what that dialogue looked like before you set the languages? Was it blank? I've never seen this before so would be good to know what to describe to the support teams and see if we can find a reason for this occurring in the first place. 
 
Very uncommon I think, but good it was such an easy thing in the end!
