order fo autosuggest suggestions

Even though I have defined the order of autosuggest providers as (my) termbases, fragment matches, autosuggest dictionaries, translation memory & atomated translation and finally Auto Text, I am only getting my own dictionary suggestions (green icon) after typing multiple characters, so many, it seems, that I first need to "exhaust" all AT (blue) suggestions. Maybe I need to change "sort by longest suggestions first" to "sort by shortest suggestions first" since by definition AT suggestions are always longer? Basically, I am not getting my own dictionary suggestions but rather unwanted AT suggestions (unwanted in case I have my own dictionary entries for a term that is better than the AT suggestion).

What is the recommended setting in order to indeed get my dictionary suggestions first?

  • Hi Lianne,

I would be inclined to reset to default and start to look at this again. I would not have expected AutoText to take priority over anything as this usually takes the most number of keystrokes before kicking in. If you do reset what order do they appear then?

    Regards

  • Hi Paul,

I am sorry, I think I said that wrong: with AT I meant automated translation, I should have said MT - but the list in the settings uses Translation Memory and Automated Translation - so I am a bit confused now about what is what. I have very few auto text (AT) items.

For now I have the sort order to set to shortest suggestions first and I am getting primarily dictionary results (green/yellow) now, as I want. It is a little more work to make use of full TM/MT suggestions (blue?) but that's alright. Should the suggestions really be a blend of both by length?

A full list with meanings of the symbols for the different providers would be helpful, actually, because I am seeing various new items now. I see among these are "Term Recognition" (green barrel or what is it?) and Fragment Matches (green + yellow stacked rectangles), going by the "information" section in the view ribbon.

If I use Reset to Defaults, does that apply to all settings in the options or just the options page that I have open? My guess is the first?
If so, I am going to leave it as is.

    Thanks.
