I have a termbase which was created when I was new to Studio and Multiterm. It works, but I made mistakes on the entry level, index level and the properties of the descriptive fields. Once populated, it is impossible to make changes, but I would like to set things right. Is there a way to create a new termbase, correct the mistakes on the various levels, and import the terms out of the old one? I have Multiterm 2019.
I'd say the easiest approach is to export the entire termbase to Excel using the Gossary Converter (from the appstore) and then tidy it up as needed in Excel. Then drop it back into the Glossary Converter to recreate the termbase.

When recreating / creating a TB out of Excel, where picklist values are defined, Glossary Converter will not automatically fill the values in corresponding fields, unless you manually add all the necessary values during the process in GC. So for TBs with picklists I would recommend to use the MultiTerm Convert process. This will read and apply the picklist values. This is one of the biggest drawbacks on Glossary Converter I know.

So many steps :) I would stick to the old MT Convert in that very case. Advantage here: you can add/modify the TB structure there, add new languages, fields and so on. Sometimes the old fashioned way is not bad for an old boy...

Sometimes the old fashioned way is not bad for an old boy...
Too true... unles you need to change the content at the same time. It is a few steps, but they are simply drag and drop in each case... so not really a hardship :-)

You are right Paul, but I still use MT Convert occasionally. Today I had to export only three languages from a big TB containing many languages and using media data (pictures). Well, the export process worked - but GC did not create proper links to images. So I sticked back to the old fashioned way and used export, save TB definition, create a new TB using this definition and modifying as needed, then importing the XML. Now the TB works.
What I want to say is, that GC does great job, but cannot resolve all needs around the TB. So I still think we need MT Convert. The only thing could be putting all convert processes (convert, create TB, import) into one go instead of doing three separate operations.

OK gentlemen, I read your conversation. I have Multiterm 2019 and as far as I can see, there is no MT Convert included in this edition. I also have the 2017 version which does include MT Convert. However, I have never used that program. I watched a video on youtube and it seems to be rather complicated. If it is simpler to use the drag and drop method with GC, I think I would rather try that. But may I ask Paul to explain the different steps of this process a bit more in detail if possible?
Well, please check your MT installation or run a repair installation on MT 2019, as MT Convert is indeed included:
