How big can the 5 (free) SDL Language Cloud termbases be?

It seems we get 5 free TBs in the SDL Language Cloud (right?), but how big can they be?

  • Ha ha, indeed.

Well, e.g., my TMLookup database (which is for TMs, not TBs) contains around 50,000,000 TUs at the moment. I think my LogiTerm TMX collection has around 100,000,000 TUs, spread across a very large number of individual TMs (split into clients/subjects, etc.).

I also have a very large collection of glossaries and termbases, which I have been collecting for years now (whch I call WORDBOOK; SEE: http://beijer.uk/WORDBOOK.html), probably over a 100 different ones by now, ranging from tiny glossaries with only 20-30 entries, to massive termbases, such as the IATE (via Henk Sanderson @ https://santrans.net) which is around 800,000 entries I think. My Big Mama, or Big Papa (can never remember which is which in DVX lingo) glossary is around 1 million entries, with a tons of metadata.

I also have a massive online termbase, hosted by http://www.evoterm.net/en/Terminology.aspx (the people who host the late Graham Oxtoby's amazing Dutch<>English Groot Woordenboek Industrie & Techniek (GWIT) aka Comprehensive Dictionary of Information & Technology), which is where I dump literally everything, just in case.

Anyway, so my plan is to start testing the limits of Studio 2017’s TBs and TMs. I'm currently importing all my personal TMs into a single massive .sdltm, to see how big they can get, and still work well. I also want to see how really big TMs work with the new uplift / fragment aligning stuff.

  • I'd say these are large!! Will be interesting how you get on. Frankly I think your TMs are too large for Studio and will probably never finish the UpLift process. They're the sort of size that would be better off in GroupShare... although I don't think I've ever seen TMs of this size in there in practice either.

Look forward to your feedback anyway.

  • Hmm, well, am going to try it anyway., as I'm sure you suspected. Have been trying to get UpLift working with a TM of around 7GB, but keep getting an error. Will post some more info tomorrow.

And what about the SDL Online Editor? would that be able to handle bigger TMs, or would you really need to use GroupShare (which is very expensive, or so I have been told; sadly no prices anywhere)? Also, any idea what max TM sizes GroupShare can handle, also with UpLift?
