yes, this is possible and similar to adding to offline project, you just need to also publish (check out) the files at the end.

Yes, it's perfectly possible. I assume it's translatable files you want to add. 
 
1. Change to the source language in the tree structure to the left. 
2. Drag and drop your files in the big white space in Studio. 
3. Select the files, right-click and choose Prepare without project TM (for example). 
4. Check in the files and switch to the target language. Done. 
 
And a tip: If you are adding files you might want to add a subfolder in the project, so that you can single these files out in a simpler way further down the road. If you want to do that you right-click the project name after you have switched to the source language, choose Add New Folder and write the name of the folder in the box, e.g. ”Additional_files_<date>”. Then drag and drop your files in the big white space (with the folder selected in the tree structure). 
 
This would also be the method if you want to use one Studio project for many jobs from the same client, instead of setting up new projects all the time (a real time-saver). The structure could look like this: 
 
Client Name 
 Job1 
 Job2 
 Job3 
 Etc.
