Yes, you can create a new Role and assign the permissions you want. Keep in mind that "Some permissions need other permissions to be useful", so make sure to check the dependencies between permissions.

Thanks a lot for your answer: actually I did go through this document for role creation, and my question was slightly a bit different.

I have a number of users (a few hundreds) who need to get the same amount of permissions. I was wondering if there is a way to:

a) Create the role (like you suggested). Lets call it role "A".

b) Then, can we create a user group, and put all users in that group? If that is possible, we can assign the pre-created role (in this case, role A) to that group in one go. Otherwise I will ahve to assign the role to all (few hundreds) users one by one.
