Assistance Required – SDL Trados Studio 2014 Freelance Perpetual License Transfer (Reset Quota Exhausted)

Hello,

I own a perpetual SDL Trados Studio 2014 Freelance license that I subsequently upgraded to SDL Trados Studio 2021 Freelance Plus. I am attempting to transfer my license to a replacement computer. Unfortunately, my previous computer is no longer accessible, so I am unable to deactivate the license installed on that machine.

I have used all three self-service license resets permitted by the licensing system, which now reports that my reset quota has been exhausted. Although there was no reset option available for the Studio 2021 license, it seems that I was able to perform a reset on the older Studio 2014 license before exhausting my reset quota.

I can provide my license number and any additional information required to verify ownership of the license. I am not seeking technical support for the software itself, but rather assistance in transferring or resetting my perpetual license so that I may continue using SDL Trados Studio 2021 Freelance Plus on my new computer. I would be very grateful for any licensing assistance you can provide.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

  • Hi ,

You actually have only the SDL Trados Studio 2021 Freelance Plus and as you can see in the screenshot, you have one activation fulfilment available to use and the Reset license button is not available when one of the fulfilments is available to use. The Plus license type offers the possibility to activate Trados on two separate computers.

Please download and install and then activate Trados 2021, as you have one activation fulfilment available to use. You can reset the other one after you use the free one.

And as a side note, once an upgrade is processed, the activation code generated is for the edition you upgraded to, and the previous edition no longer can be activated. Not to mention that Trados 2014 is also no longer supported at all, its licensing system has been decommissioned many years ago.

    Best regards,

  • Hello Anca,

Thank you very much for your help. I was finally able to activate SDL Trados Studio 2021 successfully!

You were absolutely right that I still had one activation fulfilment available and that the upgrade to SDL Trados Studio 2021 Freelance Plus had generated a new activation code. I had mistakenly been trying to use my original 2009 activation code. After taking another look at my RWS account, I found the correct activation code (it wasn't labeled as such) for the 2021 license and was able to activate Studio without any problems. Thank you again for pointing me in the right direction!

    Best,
