Hi,
After updating Trados Studio 2022, the application crashes on startup with the error: 'service sdl.desktop.platform.commandbars.IActionService could not be started'. I have cleared AppData and reinstalled, but it persists. I tried all the help AI could offer, without success. Please help.
And here's a detailed summary of what I've tried:
- Software Version: Trados Studio 2022 (recently updated to SR2 CU12).
- Environment: Co-existing with an older, functioning installation of Trados Studio 2014 (which must remain untouched).
- Original Issue: After a recent software update in Trados Studio 2022, the option to "Create Return Package" failed to function/was throwing errors.
- Application Repair: Attempted a "Repair" via Windows Control Panel (Apps & Features) for Trados Studio 2022. The process completed successfully, but immediately after, the software began crashing instantly upon launch.
- Manual Cache & Settings Reset:
- Deleted
plugincache.xmland user configuration files (UserSettings.xml/BaseSettings.xml) from%AppData%\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio17. - Replaced a missing
UserSettings.xmlusing its.bakbackup copy.
- Deleted
- Application Reset & Factory Reset:
- Renamed and backed up the
Studio17folders in both%AppData%(Roaming) and%LocalAppData%paths. - Deleted the
projects.xmlfile fromDocuments\Studio 2022\Projectsto prevent the application from auto-loading a corrupt project layout.
- Renamed and backed up the
- Plugin Clean-Up: Deleted the
Pluginsdirectories from Roaming, Local, and ProgramData paths to eliminate any outdated third-party add-ons (including Language Weaver and WorldServer Components). - System Verification: Ran a full Windows System File Checker scan (
sfc /scannow), which returned no integrity violations, confirming the OS is stable. - Full Clean Reinstall: Uninstalled Trados Studio 2022 completely via Control Panel and performed a fresh installation using the official
Trados Studio 2022 SR2 CU12executable wrapper. - Prerequisite Check: Attempted to reinstall
Microsoft WebView2 Runtime(Standalone Evergreen x64), but Windows blocked it because a twin, updated version is already present on the system.
- Behavior A (Initial Crash Loop): After the initial repair, the software crashed silently within a split second during the "Loading application modules" phase.
- Error Message 1 (CommandBars / UI Conflict): During clean launch wizard attempts, the following structural layout error appeared:
"service sdl.desktop.platform.commandbars.IActionService could not be started"
- Error Message 2 (Window Thread Conflict): Intermittently paired with the UI initialization failure:
"Invoke or BeginInvoke cannot be called on a control until the window handle has been created"
- Error Message 3 (Missing Methods): Upon trying to re-import or re-open a project:
"Method not found: [followed by a long assembly path...]"
- Trados Studio 2022 is currently locked in an unlaunchable state due to persistent
IActionServicethread crashes, likely tied to damaged registry keys or orphaned cloud integration paths from the prior update. - Projects are temporarily being safely processed using Trados Studio 2014 as a fallback.
- Request for Technician: A remote session (via AnyDesk/TeamViewer) is required to clean up orphaned registry hives and restore Trados 2022 launch capability
Thx
Mirit
