Repository wide, XML-aware, search and replace

I am in desperate need of tools to operate on the whole repository, much like the find and replace dialog in oxygen XML, which lets you specify to search in elements or attributes, by element or attribute name or content, or lets one specify an xpath expression to search by.

  • Hi, not sure it I understand the issue completely, but if you need to search and find XML elements in Tridion Docs you can. I got this explanation from Kurt van Deun (RWS):

    As you know the search looks inside the content and the XML structure by default.  The details of the operators can be found online in:
    https://docs.rws.com/992513/75872/tridion-docs-14-sp4/search-for-content 
    When you use a query like this:
    “<body>”            you get hits on the XML element <body> and occurrences in the content
    So looking for:
    “<properties>”  results in 51 hits
    properties           results in 30 hits (just the term properties that occurs in the text)
    to find only the real element <properties>, you need to create a query like the one below with and AND and NOT operator which results in 21 hits:
    "<properties>" AND !properties

    Hi Pia, thanks for the reply. I'm aware of those search options and they're sort of useful sometimes. But the search is still just doing text search. Sure it is aware of the XML, but it can't do anything intelligent with it. What I'd really want is something that is xpath/xquery aware for search. The other issue is, once I've done the search... I get to open the topics 1 by 1 and do something to them. That is time consuming. Sometimes I search and get 1000 results. That's a days worth of just opening and closing topics. 

    If we could execure an xpath or xquery and then act on multiple files that match the query, my life would be much easier.

    I agree.  Actually, it becomes harder to search when the element comes with attributes.
