Refining the wordcount shown in trados Editor

Hi everybody,

It is difficult in the editor to follow and estimate the progression of the translation work if there is no difference in the word count between the draft segments, which can be fuzzies/worked but unconfirmed segments, and the automatically translated segments (AT or NMT), which, in my humble translator opinion, are actually new words and may sometimes require a total rewording, terminolgy or other searches and a more in-depth understanding process. On the other hand, fuzzies often require minor changes.

In the screenshot below, I do not know if I have 5,822 fuzzies or 5,822 new words left to process. Yet, having 5,822 autotranslated words to post-edit, with sometimes a heavy process of understanding, rewording and searching, is definitely not the same as having 5,822 fuzzy words to work on –mainly if the autotranslation is poor.

It would be great if NMT/AT wordcount was separate from the fuzzies/unconfirmed translated segments.

Thank you

  • I approve, and btw @trados, when reviewing your counting mechanism, don't forget to take the the locked segments into account in your specification. I submitted an idea about this a few years ago... ;-)

it's not a hijacking attempt at your idea - because I believe the basic idea is the same: having a more accurate view on the job to be done.
