Add built-in spell checker in the Online Editor

We know that a built-in spell checker is not currently planned for the online editor, but please reconsider. The browser's spell check is limited, and relying on Google's Chrome enhanced spell check or third-party plugins poses confidentiality concerns. Having this feature would be especially beneficial for file types for which it is not possible to generate an editable target, such as xliff files.

    As I mentioned in the original proposal, the browser's spell check is limited, and relying on Google's Chrome enhanced spell check or third-party plugins poses confidentiality concerns. More specifically, as I mentioned in the thread with Daniel Brockmann, for many companies onboarding an additional tool for spellchecking creates additional and unnecessary overhead. It is quite a glaring omission for a full-featured translation management system such as Trados Enterprise to not have this type of essential functionality built in and ask its users to make do with third-party solutions

    If the Antidote browser extension is not as good as the desktop version, then this is something you should raise with Druide, who make the software.

  • The aim of Online Editor is to reproduce the functionality of Trados Studio's Editor on the Trados Cloud platform. The built-in spell checker for Trados Studio is Hunspell and, according to the project page, this is the same one used by Chrome and Firefox. Is this what you would like built into Online Editor?

    If so, how would it be any different if Hunspell were built into Online Editor, versus the local browser? To the best of my knowledge, the dictionaries it uses are local, built into the browser, so no information is exchanged with the developers of that software.

    Advanced spell, and grammar checking are available through browser plugins, and the Enhanced Spell check in Chrome that you already mentioned. Are you proposing that Online Editor have advanced spell checker functionality equal to that of Microsoft Word, for example, or a third party browser plugin?

  • While an Antidote plugin is currently available for Trados Studio, this functionality isn't available for Trados Cloud. One of RWS TE customer likes the ability to use Antidote within their Trados Enterprise instance to supplement the native QA capabilities.
