Capability to log ClientConifig access for troubleshooting and audit

I think logging capability is very essential for all network access, and that should be the same with ClientConfig files sync'ed by Publication Manager and Authoring Bridge. However, according to both clients (i.e. Publication Manager and Authoring Bridge) and Tridion Docs servers don't have capability to extend logging level for ClientConfig sync. Is that true?

That is actually a problem when I troubleshoot ClientConfig sync issue with RWS Support. RWS hosts six production servers for us, and those are workload balanced. With that condition, unnecessary ClientConfig file sync happens when the timestamp would mismatch than previous file sync. Even worse, each of users seem to be experiencing the unnecessary file sync issue differently, possibly due to workload balancer. So, even though redeployment of ClientConfig files by RWS Support improved the consistency across six production servers for some users, I am hearing from some other users, hey, still experiencing that issue. Although RWS Support have ever tried to make the folder content consistent again and again, that won't be suppressed fully. We can't identify which production server the issue is remaining.

I don't know what the challenge is with RWS to implement that logging capability. But, if that logging capability wasn't possible for RWS, can RWS take different approach to identify required ClientConfig file sync?

Content Importer general access for authors

Our team is responsible for our company's Tridion Docs instance (v15.2). We've been using TD for 10 years. We find that Content Importer works great for translated content. However, it is more error-prone for English content. In fact, when we outsource conversion to DITA, the vendor always chooses to avoid Content Importer, instead opting for their custom methods instead. Aside from migrations, English imports are rarely requested by our authors. When they are needed, our support team does them for the authors who request them. However, the use cases are growing and there is more of a demand for English content imports.

Do you generally allow access to Content Importer for your authors?
If so, what risks has that presented?
What are your general best practices for authors using Content Importer?
Or do you generally limit it only to support roles?

Setting multiple values for a metadata field using DocumentObj25.Create shows invalid entries

Some weird behavior here that is vexing me...

I making a web API call -- DocumentObj25.Create -- to create a topic in a Tridion Docs 14 environment.

For one of the metadata fields I am setting, there are multiple taxonomy values.

When I look at the created object in Publication Manager, two of the three values are listed as invalid.

I performed the same operation manually in Publication Manager and looked at the log to see how Publication Manager was passing the metadata via the same API call. The metadata structure looks exactly like the one I am passing with my API call, but the result is correct. The values are not listed as invalid.

Here is what my metadata looks like:

FCUSTOMFIELD1 is set correctly from the API call.

FCUSTOMFIELD2 is not set correctly. One value is set, but the other two are marked as invalid.

When I look at the logs in Publication Manager, when I create an object manually, I see the same exact metdata structure for FCUSTOMFIELD2 as what my API call is passing. But Publication Manager sets it correctly, and my API call does not.

Also note that if I limit the FCUSTOMFIELD2 to one value in my API call, it works without a problem.

Release notice for TD15.2.1

This is a question regarding the release of Tridion Docs 15.2.1. Version 15.2.1 was released at the beginning of February, and the installer was made available on the FTP site. After downloading the installer and checking its contents, I confirmed that it included a ReadMe.md describing the update procedure. However, I could not find the complete release notes for 15.2.1. Are release notes not provided for update releases?

I would like to know the following points:

The defects that were fixed by the update
Client program compatibility (if the update is applied to the server, is it mandatory to update the client programs as well?)

I would greatly appreciate it if you could publish the release notes for version 15.2.1.

We are investigating outputting our DITA content to (GitHub/GFM-flavored) Markdown format. Has anyone done this already, and do you have any suggestions?

We are on-prem, TDX 15.1.2. DITA-OT 3.5.4.

Unrelease a publication output via UI (Organize Space and/or Publication Manager)

We have a few post publish plugins that we run when a user marks a publication output as release. Once a publication output is released it can no longer be published. We have had instances where the publish process fails and now we have to version up the publication and release it again. We would like to take advantage of the "unrelease" user privilege, and have been successful unreleasing a publication via API. We are wondering if there is a way anyone has implemented to allow a user with this privilege to trigger the unrelease through Publication Manager or Organize Space. We are on Tridion Docs 15.2 Patch 1, TIA.

Does any one have problems with Oxygen crashes when you check out objects from Browse Repository with the previewer open?

I’m experiencing a recurring and very disruptive issue in Oxygen. Whenever I check out an object from Browse Repository while the previewer is open, Oxygen very often crashes. This happens consistently enough that it’s affecting my workflow.

Even more frustrating, after a crash and restart, Oxygen sometimes freezes immediately on launch, forcing me to restart the entire computer before I can continue working.

This behaviour makes routine tasks unreliable and time‑consuming.

Anyone else have the same issue? Solutions?

I use Tridion Docs 15.1 and Oxygen 25.1

Deleting released objects

I know that the whole purpose of releasing objects in the database is to keep them safe and prevent changes. However, we have an issue that requires deleting released publications and maps from the database.

Can anyone please provide a method to do this?

I have administrative rights, but in this case that is not enough - or so it seems.

Is there a way to cancel translation jobs that use the File Export template in Tridion?

In Tridion 14, we were able to translation cancel jobs with the status "Export completed" if, for example, we found that we did not have sufficient budget. In Tridion 15, it is no longer possible to cancel a job with this status. Is there another way to revert the statuses of all of the files in a translation job to "To be translated"? We could manually update the files for each publication in the job, for each language, but this would take a long time, and we might update files that were sent in another job (thus preventing those files from being imported). Thanks!

ISHRemote - How to autocomplete baseline of a publication using ISHRemote?

Hello,

I am new to ISHRemote and need help to create a script. Sorry if this was already asked somewhere, but wasn't able to find anything related.

Context

I am trying to build a script to publish a publication using ISHRemote. I want my script to:

Access Tridion
Access a publication in a given folder
Add a map to a publication
Autocomplete the baseline of the publication and push to latest Release status all objects in it
Publish Outputs already configured in the publication

Issue

I was able to create something that works, but I am stuck on step #4. I just can't seem to find a way of doing this. Whatever I try, the script can't read objects in the baseline.

Is it possible to autocomplete the baseline of a publication and push all objects (map, topics, images, libraries) in it to the latest Release status?

Can we customize Review Space to display headings like "Procedure" or "About this task" of a task topic?

Upgrade from Docs 15.1.2 to 15.2

We are in the planning phase of upgrading our stack from 15.1.2 to 15.2, would like to know if there are any API's that have been deprecated/obselete. Will this require code changes, rebuilds for all custom code for .NET or java dependences? Would like to here from someone who has done the upgrade and any issues they may have faced. I have reviewed all the documentation and release notes. TIA

Content Manager API to get all ISHTemplate objects with file extension of pdf

Task is to run a report using Content Manager API to get all ISHTemplate objects with file extension of pdf. I can't seem to find a field on the Ishtemplate object which stores that info. While looking in Organize Space in Docs 15.1.2 we can see the field EDT with level=data which displays the file extensions out of the box. TIA

Tridion Docs 15.0. ID attributes for Tables are automatically added when editing a topic in Oxygen, but not in Draft Space, is this possible to enable?

Using Tridion Docs v15.0 (Organize Space Build 15.0.4220.0)

The majority of our users (authors) are using the Draft Space interface to create, maintain and update content in publications. We digitally deliver our content in addition to more traditional outputs like PDFs. As part of our digital delivery, we rely on ID attributes to assist in targeting specific items like FIgures/Images and Tables.

We have noticed that when Draft Space users add new tables, they have to manually enter an ID attribute for that table in the Attributes pane. Is there a way to enable table ID attributes that are automatically generated/added when users add new tables to a topic from the Draft Space interface?

The Draft Space experience here differs greatly from that of the few users we have who author content using Publication Manager + Oxygen XML Author. In this specific area, table ID attributes are automatically created when users add new tables while editing with Oxygen XML Author via Publication Manager.

Using ishRemote, how can I get the DITA OT log file contents in a Get-IshEvent request?

I wrote this little PowerShell routine to get the log for a specific event. I can get the detail, but I cannot figure out how to get the contents of the DITA-OT log file. Can you help me?

I tried looking at IshEventData for the DITAOTLogFile event but the byte array is 0 in length.

In 15.x, how are you finding specific event logs? The timestamps are wrong

In TDX 15.1 and 15.2, the event logs can no longer be reliably sorted because the timestamp behavior has changed. The "Date Created" and "Date Modified" columns now display the user-specific timestamps (the timestamp of the user that kicked off the event – not the timestamp of the user logged into the web UI to review the logs), so it's really hard to find the right log when you have a globally distributed team. It should sort by system timestamps only.

Has anyone come up with a workaround for this, or am I missing something fundamental?

How can I delete events under the Events tab in organize space

We recently completed a clean up project in our Tridion Docs 15.1 environment and now have more than 6 million items under the "View All Events". We would like to empty out the queue, we have tried API2.5, but it only allows me to delete one item at at time based on progress id. Is there an ISHRemote query to directly delete them from the database. Here is the query I am currently running to delete them.

Can I downloading publication output using API 3.0 - Tridion Docs 15.1.2

Prompt Dissemination of an Issue Due to Windows Updates

A couple of days ago, we encountered an issue where the output file could not be downloaded from the repository using Organize Space. Through communication with RWS support, it was determined that the cause was an update to the .NET 8 version due to a Windows update. However, I spent more than a day on various investigations until the cause became clear. When issues arise, like the one caused by the Windows update, that affect many users, could you consider exploring ways to quickly and widely disseminate that information?

Use new client tools (15.2) while server is on 15.1.2?

We have a new colleague starting, and the update of our servers to 15.2. is planned for August (Dev) and end of August/September for Prod.

Can the new client tools for 15.2 be used already, while the server is behind? Then the new colleague can use the new version straight away and doesn't need to uninstall and install everything again in 6 weeks.

(we are working on a better solution to avoid the manual uninstall/install to upgrade)

What is the expected workflow for adding new elements in the Draft Space

The Draft Space is a very nice tool; I'd say the best in class. It is still pretty hard to understand sometimes.

My particular gripe is concerns how opaque the workflow is when trying to insert a new element between or after existing elements, particularly when you've got a situation like an ordered list as the last element of a section, figuring out how to select the gap between the last element of the OL but stay within the section element can be infuriating.

I've trolled the documentation for this and the assumption seems to be that nobody needs this explained. I don't like instructing my users to "just grope until it does what you want". Do we have some better guidance?

How to synchronize "Recent publications" list across two (or more) computers?

I do my SDL Publications work from two different computers, moving from one computer to the other as needed, using the same account from both computers. I may work on the same publications, but each computer stores its own list of recently accessed publications. If possible, I would like both computers to show the same "Recent publications" list. If I open a publication on one computer, I'd like to see that in the "Recent publications" list on the other computer as well, and so forth.

I note that from Publication Manager's Tools menu, there is Options, which has the item Local storage, set to: C:\Users\myusername\Documents\RWS\InfoShare

In an effort to get the same list of recently accessed publications from both computers, I changed this path on one computer to use a location on OneDrive in the cloud.

I changed the path to: C:\Users\myusername\mycompanyOneDrive\Documents\RWS\InfoShare

I figured if that worked, then I could set the same path on the other computer and have the same content on both computers, since they would be accessing and updating the same OneDrive cloud directory (presuming this is where SDL Publications stores the recently accessed publications list, which I am not certain of).

Instead of working smoothly, the computer that I changed the path on started giving me "Unexpected revision" errors and my publication did not show certain recently updated topics. When I reverted the path to the default, then normal and correct functionality was restored.

Is there any feedback or advice to achieve the result that I'm looking for? Am I on the right track trying to edit that Local storage path? Is this a bad idea, and should I just live with two different Recent publications lists on the two computers? Any help is appreciated.
