Learning resources for Enterprise

Hello

Looking into Enterprise as an option and would like some non-tech manual learning material. Help section is not helpful. Still confused by what mean by Engineer.

Trying to determine if in the Workflow/Project Templates have all configurations I need for various project types.

Also looking to see how to change Dashboard for user, project managers and others--like why does Location have name of the user.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tere,

ManTra is a portal for creating and retrieving projects and is not intended as a place where you would normally access the TM. I think you'll need access to the backend TMS implementation in order to download or access the TM.

Hello,

We are developing an MTPE solution that processes Office and PDF files by translating them and exporting the output in SDLXLIFF format. However, our developer is facing issues with parsing and formatting the SDLXLIFF files correctly. The generated files do not match the structure and formatting expected by SDL Trados Studio, leading to TMs which cannot be used.

We need guidance on the best approach to:

Ensure the correct parsing of SDLXLIFF files, preserving all necessary tags and formatting.
Generate SDLXLIFF output that is fully compatible with SDL Trados Studio.
Avoid common pitfalls when handling SDLXLIFF programmatically.

Are there any official libraries, best practices, or open-source tools that can help us achieve this? Any insights from the community would be greatly appreciated! If someone has a good path to help us, a fee would not be out of the question.

It is a little unclear what you are doing. Usually you would convert the Office and PDF files to SDLXLIFF and then translate them, but you are doing the opposite.
Could you clarify more what you want to do? Also, if you want to convert to SDLXLIFF, you could use the Trados Studio API instead of trying to do it all by yourself which isn't an easy task.

My understanding is that a report is for a single project only, so it's probably not viable for users who need to get out their post-editing data at TM scale.

How would an SDL TMS admin user export post-editing data?

Post-editing data is similar to TM in terms of the segments it includes - all projects - but it also has the intermediate machine translation included in a separate field. So source, machine translation and final human translation.

And one could imagine similar for those segments that were post-edited from TM fuzzy matches.

Is it possible already? Will it be easy in Language Cloud? And if it's in Language Cloud, will it also be able to export historic data from before the switch to Language Cloud?

Hi Adam,

There is a Translation History Report within TMS, which shows all changes made to the translations and the workflow steps the changes were made at. This can be found under:

Reports > Management Reports > Translation History.

I have a problem with uploading XLIFF files to TMS (LG TMS and Seoul TMS both). You can find errors in XLIFF file attached as below.

Most of errors were from missed trademark “-“. Also, I’ve applied TM of translated file to untranslated file as instructed.

But, It couldn’t be uploaded also. Please advise.

Root Cause:

The specified bilingual file in the error message seen above is likely to be missing from the listed path, in most cases only a .bak file will exist.

A defect (CRQ-4832) has been raised with SDL Engineering to identify why the bak files exist and there are no target bilingual files.

Resolution:

It's possible to rename the .bak file to the expected filename required for SDL TMS to identify and process the bilingual file. It's best practice to advise the Job creator that the bilingual file may need reviewing to confirm up-to-date translations before completing the translation process. The task can be submitted out of the Recovery stage otherwise.

A Fix for defect CRQ-4832 was released in TMS v12.4 and v12.3 CU2. In addition, related defect CRQ-14878 was opened for 'Corrupted re-created target SDLXLIFFs after concurrent package download' which is slated to be fixed in TMS v12.6

I would use the Mantra API to do all of this, but you will need to confirm that you have Mantra on your TMS.

I am Sri harsha. For our translation service project, we are researching about TMS APIs and we have few questions related to APIs. Currently, we have TMS user interface to do the following, but we are in need of APIs instead of doing them in UI manually.
1. Is there any API to create a Job ID and submit a document (XML) in that Job ID?
2. Is there any API to download the translated document after all the workflow steps are completed?

Please provide the documentation for the above APIs, if you have any.
We have API documentation but we did not find that helps us.

RE: Encoding for TMX files

Hello Tammy

If you see textboxes (and you have exported TMX as UTF-8 or UTF-16) it means the font used in your editor doesn't have such characters (assuming the characters show correctly in SDL TM in first place). Arial Unicode MS font should show most of the characters if you enable it in your text editor

If you want to edit TMX file, use Olifant editor http://okapi.sourceforge.net/Release/Olifant/ReadMe.htm

For Notepad++ check you Settings > Style Configurator - ensure you have Arial Unicode MS font set for your Global override & Default style. (default is Courier New, which should show most of characters too)

Encoding for TMX files

Please advise what encoding should be used to view exported TMX files from SDL TM Maintenance tool in text editors?

We have some, but not all, dashes in phone numbers appearing as corrupt characters (little box) when opened in notepad++.

We used the default Unicode setting for export. We’ll recheck appearance using 16LE setting.

These are very large databases. When we go to reload them after global updates, ok to keep encoding as 16LE?
