This is just a quick announcement that Passolo 2022 Cumulative Update 2 (CU2) is now available! This is a quite comprehensive update. Among other enhancements, we have added 400+ new languages and language variants to Passolo, aligning it with the rest of the Trados portfolio. Besides this, this release introduces official compatibility with Trados Studio and MultiTerm 2022.

Upgrading from Passolo 2018 network license to 2022

RWS notified us about the new Passolo 2022 and we would like to upgrade from our Passolo 2018. According to the same mail we should be able to use 2018 and 2022 side by side, retaining both licenses.
But when we try to upgrade our network license, a message box appears saying that we must first return "all activations currently in use".

Does this mean that we cannot retain the 2018 license?
If so, can both 2018 and 2022 run on the 2022 license?

Is this procedure applicable to 2018 and 2022?
I.e. will there be a "Use Passolo 2022 license" checkbox?

we are facing some issue with passolo 2016.
this is only for our x64 translation. it's not seen with our x86 translation.

the symptoms look very similar to the ones claimed to be fixed in CRQ-8438 for passolo 2018.

warning when generating the target file:
[x] strings did not use the translation, because the source file has changed text or coordinates

can you share some details, please?
under what exact conditions would one face CRQ-8438? and how exactly was it fixed at passolo end?

Upgrade from Passolo 2015 to Passolo 2018

Hi,

I am unsure if I should ask about this migration projet here or open a case. I start here, let me know if it is better to open a case to SDL Support.

We are currently using Passolo 2015 (1 Unlimited team, several Pro studio and several translator edition).

We have several projects and teams involved and I would like to plan the upgrade to Passolo 2018 without impact on our production.

The steps we are aiming for :

1. testing the 2018 edition on a copy of our files and make sure that everything is working smoothly. For that we will need to keep the 2015 Unlimited licence while using a 'real' (not demo) 2018 unlimited licence for 2 to 3 months. Is it a common request or do I have to contact my sale representative ?

2. Then I will ask to all the users (pro studio and translator edition) to upgrade to 2018 edition. And plan a full "translation cycle" to make sure everything is ok.

3. In the case where we encounter serious issues, we need to be able to go back to 2015 licences (we would have made a backup of the old files), is it possible to ask the support for such a licence reset ?

Thanks in advance for your help, any documentation with a step-by-step process (other than simply upgrading the licence) is welcome.

Python parser

I want to create a Python text parser. All texts in quotation marks should be found. This is quite simple in Passolo as a text parser, by setting " as the beginning and end connoisseur. But the problem is caused by escaped characters. If there is a quotation mark in the text, then write \". If you want to display a backslash \\. This is searched in paths and is often placed at the end of the string, directly before the closing quotation mark:
So I need a parser that can also parse the text.

print ("c:\\test\\" + "this is a \"test\"")

The parser should then return two texts:

c:\\test\\
and 
this is a \"test\"

Any ideas?

What’s new in Passolo 2018 CU5?
• Fixed issue with preserving the source language of a cascaded project in exports (CRQ-11904).
• Fixed Parser Error:TypeConverter cannot convert from System.String. error when saving certain RESX files (CRQ-11186).
• Fixed ERROR in Delphi parser - Read error while processing file error when certain files (CRQ-11042).
• Fixed issue with preserving \r\n\ line break formatting (CRQ-10802).
• Fixed throwing the N strings did not use the translation, because the source file has changed text or coordinates. warning when generating target files (CRQ-8438).
• Fixed issue with comments being copied between projects (CRQ-11431).
• Added a new option in Options > Tags to Process carriage return (CR) and line feed (LF) as internal tags in translation window that is enabled by default. When enabled, \r and \n chars are displayed as tags no matter how the Edit tagged strings option is set (CRQ-12068).
• Fixed issue with Passolo not properly recognizing some menu items and throwing the [x] strings did not use the translation, because the source file has changed text or coordinates warning when generating the target file (CRQ-12166).
• Passolo does not change the format of numbers when working with certain Excel files (CRQ-12424).
• The strings imported from split bundles are no longer set as untranslated. (CRQ-12553).
• The configuration files for accessing server-based TMs was improved so that the credentials are now saved even when multiple users access the TM. For this to work for already set up environments, access: Tools > Add-ins > Translation > SDL Trados Studio > Setup > Add Translation Memory > Server-Based Translation Memory > Servers > Close > Cancel (there is no need to change anything). After that, the file can be shared on network (CRQ-6839).
• Fixed the ERROR - [file] does not respect the proper JSON format and ERROR - Parsing was aborted with no changes because file check failed. Format is incorrect. errors thrown when processing certain files. (CRQ-11533).
• Fixed issue with words being split when the string does not fit the column and the Dynamic row height and Show Whitespace characters options are enabled (CRQ-12870).
• Fixed integration issues with SDL MultiTerm 2019 CU1 (CRQ-12869; CRQ-12980).
• Fixed integration issues with SDL Trados Studio 2019/2019 SR1 (CRQ-13101).

Length restrictions in resx files

Hi all,

For the translation of our software package, I have been using Passolo for a while. For each release I get a bundle of resx files. The problem we often face, however, is that the translations (into French and German for example) are too long to fit the field.

As the preview function (resource display) does not work for resx files, our developers would now like to add a character limit for each value in the resx files. Will Passolo be able to recognise these programmed restrictions? I saw that you can change the configuration of the Microsoft .Net Parser.

But now my colleague-developer asks me whether the length restriction is based on the number of characters or on pixels...

Can someone advise me on how we can best work with these length restrictions?

Passolo - generate multilingual translations into same file using text parser

Hello. I am trying to generate multiple languages into one JSON file using a custom text parser in Passolo. I have created a separate parser per target string list and attempting to generate back into the same file. I am receiving the following error message:

Cannot write target file.

The source file looks like this:

Does anyone know why this isn't working? Target path rule is setup as Path: 'Path of source file', Subpath: 'Sub path: <empty>', Filename: 'Same as source file'

Running both PASSOLO 2016 and PASSOLO 2018

I wonder if it is possible with PASSOLO 2016 Team Ed. and PASSOLO 2018 Tem Ed. (license server) to access stored 2016-LPU files with PASSOLO 2016.

The aim is to let them be under PASSOLO 2016 without upgrading them. Or is this not recommended?

Updating to Passolo 2018 (for testing) while still using Passolo 2016

We are using Passolo 2016 for our product localization. We also would like to test Passolo 2018 on a test computer to see how it works and if there are changes. We can easily transfer the license between two computers running the same Passolo version.
In 'my account' there is a notification about upgrading the license. Is the license transferrable between the two versions 2016 and 2018 and back to 2016? Has anyone else tried this?

SDLXLIFF Export/Import Add-in

After having installed Passolo 2018 Translator Edition I was surprised to see that the SDLXLIFF Export/Import Add-in is not available. Does this mean it won't by design in the Translator Edition or is this an early bug?

German GUI missing in SDL Passolo 2016 CU12 (Build 408, Published on 14 March 2018)

I have just updated from SDL Passolo 2016 Build 391 to SDL Passolo 2016 CU12 (Build 408, Published on 14 March 2018). After that I am unable to change the GUI language to German. Only English is available, German is grayed out.
Will there be a fix to enable German again?

Use of square brackets in Installshield files

We recently upgraded our version of Installshield, and it is throwing errors on square brackets that were allowed in the previous version. In Korean and Japanese, we often have the convention of putting brackets around UI elements. If the linguists uses single-byte brackets, the parser expects the text that follows to be a variable and so throws an error in the absense of a variable being defined for that text, breaking our builds. Lots of unhappy programmers show up in my office....

So I found that if the linguists use double-byte brackets in these cases, the parser treats them as literal characters, and everything works smoothly. It will be important for them to use single-byte brackets for variable calls and double-byte for literal text moving forward. Searching for single-byte graphics in the translated column would return hundreds of occurrences, as this is the desired syntax for "code calls."

My question is - does anyone know of a way that I could be sure that the correct bracket is used in this context as just part of the process? I realize that I *could* check these manually, but our build update/post process is all automated with builds twice a week, and if a linguist makes a mistake, we break the machine, delaying testing by hours if not a full day.

Would appreciate any ideas you have. Is this a case for using tags to isolate the "correct" single-byte characters?
