Where do I find the API key for theLanguage weaver Edge?

Hello Anne,

In Language Weaver Edge, each user is automatically assigned an API key. To retrieve it:

Open the Web GUI.
Log in with your user credentials.
In the upper-right corner, click your username and select My Account.
Under API Credentials, you’ll find your API URL and key.

Thank you for providing the screenshot. It shows that you are using Language Weaver (Cloud). Therefore, the Language Weaver Cloud option has to be selected after you choose Language Weaver Provider as your machine translation resource.

1. Create a project in Trados Studio.

2. In the Translation resources step, choose Language Weaver Provider.

3. Next, select Language Weaver Cloud.

4. Leave the account region set to EU and log in with your Language Weaver user credentials (username/password) or your API credentials (client ID/client secret).

To get the public host from your Language Weaver Edge application, please follow these steps:

- Log in to Language Weaver Edge

- On the upper right corner, click on your user name

This will open a page from where you can copy the "API Base URL"

Can you kindly confirm what application version you are using? I am referring to the app in the screenshot you have shared above.

SSO has been set up and is working, I have set users up with SSO, but cannot find the setting I know this is simple and straight forward but am very grateful for your help.

I can select a user I can see they are marked up as local but I cannot find the setting to convert them to SAML.

Hi Hannah Crudgington ,

I will take the assumption that you are using Language Weaver Edge (our self-hosted version of Language Weaver), but feel free to correct me.

In Edge, local users will automatically be converted to SAML upon the first login of the user (with the same email address) using Single Sign-On. Once SAML is enabled, the user, who used to login with username and password, should now click on the button "Log in with Single Sign-On" and authenticate with your Identity Provider:

Edge will automatically detect that the user has local credentials and will update the user record automatically.

The "Log In Locally" option should then be limited to pure local users (such as Super Admins).

Hi Chris,

Yes, Language Weaver Edge supports Event Logs.

All API calls (except translation requests) can be logged and will be stored in an event log file (events.log), stored in the "logs" subfolder on the Edge controller.

You can configure the "events to log" from the Manage / Settings / Event Logging page in the Edge UI. Turn on "Event Logging" and select the events you'd like to log using the "Edit" button. You can select all if needed, or just failed events for example.

By default, the event log file size is limited to 10MB, and 3 backups are saved, then rotated. This can be customized in the main config file on the Controller.

Hello Chris,

As an Admin of the system, you can enable automatic purge of translations by going to the Manage > Translation > switch on Enable automatic purges of translation and specify the maximum age of translations expressed in seconds.

Hello Vincent,

We currently do not support this functionality, so for the time being it would be recommended to parse the different languages and submit them for translation Spanish > English and Portuguese > English if possible.
We are working on introducing this feature. Once it is available, you will be able to do it in one go. We'll communicate once it becomes available.

Is there a way to translate a document with more than one language in Language Weaver Edge. We have a document with both Spanish and Portuguese and need to translate to English. Do we want to parse the different languages or is there a trick to do it it all once?

Adaptable LPs Training in Edge 8.6 - GPU Drivers Update and CPU training support

Hi all,

We recently released Language Weaver Edge 8.6.

If you are upgrading from Edge 8.5 and you are training Adaptable LPs with a GPU, you will need to update the Nvidia Drivers in order to use the GPU for training.

Edge 8.6 now requiring Nvidia CUDA 11 and the minimum version of drivers required is 510.47.03. The GPU driver installation instructions have been updated in the documentation.

Note that using a GPU for training still requires a host running a Linux distribution.

And with 8.6, you can now use CPU to train Adaptable LPs. And this works with Linux and Windows. Training takes longer (24x times slower) but the output model is identical to a training performed on GPU. Only 4 CPUs are needed and 32 GB of RAM. All you need is to create a "Training engine" on a host with enough hardware available and start it.

Hi,

besides the few videos in the Videos section, would there be the possibility to add some videos showing how LWE integrates and works within Trados Studio 2022?

I also miss information about if there are rules that can be set up and if so, how? How are the results finetuned? If you have a look at Opus-CAT MT’s website, they have a lot of information with screenshots about how everyhting works. Unfortunately for LWE there is no visible similar information. [emoticon:ca08b2c27c2f40e993e89508acf29e0b] If you could implement this in a video too, that would be great. Or is there the possibility to have a quick chat via Skype to show how it works via shared screen?

EDIT: I forgot to add the questions I also had for Opus:

- Is it possible to implement grammar rules in Opus-CAT MT? In Luxembourgish for example we have a quite complex rule for dropping final n which would make most translations useless with simple search and replace. I got it narrowed down to 130 lines of code and besides the rules and exceptions it requires a db with the words it applies to in the background to work correctly.

- Are genders of words considered when matching against terminology? To me it seems it only searches and replaces terms and this again leads to many grammar errors.

- Are categories considered when translating, say you select a field of translation before you start translating with Opus? (e.g. medical, HR, Technical, or even more fine tuned subcategories?)

- is it possible to use German as target language for Luxembourgish and work with search and replace to get Luxembourgish texts for those parts where there is no sufficient data to translate to LB directly?

and a few regarding LWE:

- what are the costs for using LWE on your own server?

- Right now I only have a Windows Server, so when will the version for Windows be available approximately?

I'm not aware of videos showing how Studio 2022 works with Language Weaver Edge, and I'm sorry if we don't have any, but there are videos showing how Studio is working with Language Weaver (our Saas offering). Note that Language Weaver (Saas) and Language Weaver Edge (self hosted) have the same feature scope and capabilities - they both support adaptation capabilities, starting with Dictionaries and Brands, up to model adaptation with Adaptable Language Pair training. With the upcoming Edge 8.6, we will also support Auto adaptive language pairs, which will use user feedback to adapt the models transparently. Note that this specific feature will require an update of the Studio Edge plugin - and an internal feature request has already been placed to allow user feedback to be sent from Studio to Edge.

With the current studio plugin, you can already reference a specific Edge language pair and specify a dictionary that needs to be applied on top of the language pair.

Multiple dictionaries are supported per Language Pair, so you can define a dictionary for each category/domain you're working on and select the appropriate dictionary based on the specific project. This can be enforced for each Language Pair Mapping in the Studio Plugin.

If you already have domain specific translation memories, you can also train multiple adapted Language Pairs, one for each domain and select the appropriate one in the Studio template. And Dictionaries can work on top of generic or adapted language pairs.

Dictionaries do not support inflection at the moment (when the source segment is found, it is tagged and then replaced in the output with the corresponding target segment); but we are working on an improved terminology support which will provide better support for inflection and will produce more natural output. I'm expecting to see the first improved models in Q1 2023 and then we'll release support for more languages throughout the course of 2023.

We don't support Grammar Rules, but Edge 8.6 (our upcoming release) will support pre and post-processing scripts that can be called before the content is processed and after the content has been processed. You would be able to apply specific rules to prepare your content and then apply them on the output. This would work best for structured content or plain text.

We don't have Luxembourgish Language pairs, but if you have Luxembourgish content in translation memories, the adaptation process would already steer the German model in producing an output which would be closer to Luxembourgish.

Regarding Edge specifically, the product supports both Windows and Linux, so it can be deployed on any of the supported Operating systems listed in the documentation at https://docs.rws.com/833475/397044/language-weaver-edge-documentation/compatible-operating-systems

Note that the upcoming 8.6 will also support Windows Server 2022.

sorry, but this does not even answer my question to the slightest. I did not ask how to connect or use it in Trados but I asked for explanations and videos to the above questions.

Furthermore, I don’t have any credentials yet as I did not book any subscription as I’m still trying to find out if that NMT even suits my needs. Which I can decide on, if I get answers to my questions.

Please see below the steps to connect Trados Studio to Language Weaver Edge.

Pre-requisites to use connect Trados Studio to Language Weaver Edge:

Have a Language Weaver Edge account.
Obtain you <API Key>: This is a credential equivalent to a user and password. To find out the API Key, log into the Language Weaver Edge Web GUI as an admin user and click to [Username] > My Account. The API Key will be something like u_user@example.com_NM2ba8j9pHQ2.
Install the Language Weaver Edge for Trados Studio (https://appstore.rws.com/plugin/40/).

Once you have installed the app, you can follow the steps below to connect Trados Studio to Language Weaver Edge.

From Trados Studio, go to the Project Settings.
Go to Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Translation Memory and Automated Translation and click on SDL Machine Translation Edge.
Enter your connection details as follows:
Click on OK. You should now get the MT for each segment in your translation file.

Hi Aedan.

The "Download All" feature in the UI is limited to 25 jobs.

When using the REST API, it is possible to download more jobs (up to 125) in a zip file, with an archive size limit of 1GB, but it will still not help if you have thousands of files to translate.

We are aware of this need and we are working on a solution to address it which I hope will be available in the next 6 months.

In the meantime, the best way to handle it would be to create a script that would use the Edge REST API to:

Iterate over the files to translate
For each file:
- submit asynchronous translation jobs
Monitor status of the jobs (or use the webhook capability to get a notification when the job is completed)
When completed:
- Download the translation and save it locally

The Edge REST API documentation can be found by clicking on the Help button in the Edge portal, and then "Rest API Guide". It contains details and examples on how to perform asynchronous translations.

This can also be achieved with our Java SDK, recently released on the Language Weaver developers portal: https://developers.languageweaver.com/developer-tools/sdk/java/index.html

The Java SDK includes a method to specifically perform batch file translations, by providing an input folder and an output folder: https://developers.languageweaver.com/developer-tools/sdk/java/edge-requests.html#perform-a-batch-file-translation

While the Java SDK is easy to use, it is intended to be used by a Java developer in order to build the appropriate solution for your needs.

Note that we are also planning to release more SDKs, including support for C# (end of Q2) and Javascript (H2) so it will be easier to create applications and connect to Language Weaver resources.

I'll be happy to provide guidance on the REST API async translation calls, and get feedback on the SDK.

Bulk Download All Translations

Hello, I need to perform bulk downloads of translations on Language Weaver Edge 8.5. I will need to do this for ~62k documents in plain TXT format. While RWS does give the option to “select all files”, once I have done so, the download button is greyed out. It says "This action is not available for all selected translations" however I can download them 25 at a time by going page by page and only selecting the 25 from that page for download. It seems to not want to download more than 25 documents at a time which would be quite tedious given the volume of files to be translated. Could anyone help with this?

Language Weaver Edge 8.5.8 - HF to be released shortly

Hi all,

We recently released Language Weaver Edge 8.5.7 with several fixes and security enhancements (read more here).

Unfortunately, we have discovered that LDAP authentication may fail for new users after the update. We have identified the root cause for this issue and we have already a fix for it.

SAML integration is not impacted, this issue is only for customers using LDAP integration.

We are going to release Language Weaver Edge 8.5.8 shortly and it will be announced via Community.

If you already upgraded to Language Weaver Edge 8.5.7 and you are not using LDAP integration, you are safe and you can keep running Edge 8.5.7.

If you already upgraded to Language Weaver Edge 8.5.7 and you are using LDAP integration, new users may fail to login successfully. Local users can be created to provide end-users access to the UI. Upgrade to Language Weaver Edge 8.5.8 will solve the issue.

If you haven't upgraded to Language Weaver Edge 8.5.7 yet, you can wait for 8.5.8.
