Yes, either of those would be great. I think there are use cases for both, so being able to choose would be the optimal solution.

So, you would be happy with a toggle? Ascending/Descending. Or even " Go to latest comments?"

I just noticed when you hit enter it posts the message :). I can see why reversing the order is useful, but I feel the current system is too constrained (I think it should allow to reverse as an option and not fixed). I was very confused until I realized the posts are all reversed :).

Just something I noticed, but starting from yesterday, the replies in a thread now appear in reverse order, i.e. whoever replied last is on top.
