I have a bunch of file-based translation memories with customized language resource settings (segmentation rules, custom date and time formats, etc.).

I would like to create new empty file-based translation memories based on each of those existing translation memories.

In Studio, I would just open each of the translation memories and use the ·"New translation memory from".

As I have quite a few, I would rather automate the process.

I was looking at the SDK and I could not find any method create a TM based on an existing TM, using the var tm = new FileBasedTranslationMemory(....)

It seems as if one would have to open the existing TM, loop through the required settings to read them and then create new blank TM and provide the settings read from the other TM as parameters.

Isn't there a more straightforward approach? Something like "CreateTMbasedOnAnotherTM (newTMpath, OldTMPath) or similar. Just something to clone a TM easily.

I guess I could automatically make a copy of those TMs and automatically delete all translation units but there is bug in file-based in which TUs are not really deleted and the file size remains large even after deleting all TUs.

Thanks!

I've been trying to implement a machine translation plugin that uses Google Cloud Translation's AutoML models.

Google's tutorials on how to use it all involved the used of the Google.Cloud.Translate.V3 C# library to request a translation, but using it for a Trados Studio plugin resulted in the following error:

Could not load file or assembly 'Google.Cloud.Translate.V3, Version=1.0.0.0. Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=185c282632e132a0' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Which I assume means that the library isn't supported by Trados Stuio.

So I'm wondering if there is another way to implement the method without using Google's library.

Where do .sdlplugin artifacts generate?

When attempting to build a project, even one based on the 2019 templates, I don't ever seen any .sdlplugin output within the compiled resource files.
I am working on developing a plugin to offer our Machine Translation services to SDL Trados Studio users. To build plugin, I started with SDL Translation Provider project template.

I implemented few functions of classes implanting ITranslationProviderWinFormsUI, ITranslationProvider Interfaces. Somehow, with the help of DeepL and ETS plugins developed by SDL Community, I successfully deployed my plugin and shown a GUI to input Api Key. But after that, SDL Studio gives following error:

“The Translation Provider ‘blah blah blah’ could not be opened and has been disabled.”

Afterwards, plugin gets added but remains disabled.

The DeepL plugin is also giving same error but it remains enabled after adding till the time of selecting files for translation.

I must say that there is very little help on how to start developing a plugin. There should be step by step guide including detailed explanation of events especially when an event will be triggered.

I'd like to change my name (Michael Kobayashi) to the company name and the email address to my company email address. Anybody know how to do that?

P.S. -- I also heard that all developers need a valid license for the product for which they are developing, however my app seems to have been accepted and published even though my SDL Account is not linked with the copy of Trados Studio 2017 I am using. Has the policy changed? Do developers still need valid product licenses in order to publish?

We are considering a development of a new Machine Translation plugin for SDL studio. It's our first experience with plugin development with SDL so please forgive me for any trivial question I may ask.

We would like developing our plugin starting with Studio 2017 for two reasons: resources out there refer to this version, so we would like to start with a consolidated experience and, most important, we would start with a version that has more users in order to extend the support once we have a much clearer view on how to properly build a plugin. The problem is that we cannot find the download link anywhere now that 2019 is out.

Can you please point me to the right direction?

Further more, is there a "developer" version of SDL Studio that we developers can use to create and maintain our plugin? Something like a free, limited version just for devs. There is usually a 30-days trial, but I think it's pretty hard to complete the plugin in this lifespan (moreover because we do not have any experience with that), and it would be a problem to develop updates and bugfixes anyways.

What is the standard way to proceed?

Thanks to all for your help, it's much appreciated!

Calucation of x-Context property values

Dear all,

I wrote a console application in visual studio c# that creates a project based on few parameters.

It's mostly similar/taken from the example in the project automation sdk documentation.

I need, after copying to target language the sdlxliff files, to process them by emptying the non-locked segments.

What would be the best (lightweight, easier) way to implement this, considering I'm in the process of creating a new project?

Looking up in this community i found some ways like:

- create a batch task

- use filetypes

- use core api and create a processor for sdlxliff files (i'm not sure this exists anymore, since the post was very very old).

- manually edit the sdlxliff files as xml (I'd really avoid this, doesn't seems proper or safe to me in case of spec changes).

I hope to get a hint from the experienced developers here. Thank you very much!

I would like to programm an online tool (maybe as offline app later on) in order to automatically alter existing SDLXLIFF and xliff files (and maybe also for other translation file types).

From what I understood it is not possible to create new sdlxliff files without using Trados, right?

Another question I have is about the tag <internal-file ...> within sdlxliff files: what is all this "garbage" about?

I guess it's encrypted or compressed information about how Trados should handle the file, but can I alter the rest of the file e.g. by adding (sub)segments or other information without having to change this part? Or is it not possible outside of Trados as this part would also need to be changed during that process?

Are there other things I need to pay attention to?
