Trados Studio: All segments confirmed mystery: Found a potential reason

From time to time some users report that all segments got confirmed and they don't know why. Well, the same happened to me today. In a document with several segments unconfirmed I did confirm a segment and all unconfirmed segments got confirmed in one go. What happened? I pressed the shortcut which I use to confirm and go to the next unconfirmed segment. But when I did so, TWO segments were selected. But not in the way which would allow to merge them. No, simply selected like lines in Word, so the background was not yellow (merging is active), but black. A simple segment selection using SHIFT and arrows. And in this very situation all segments got confirmed.

So this is a potential answer to how this can happen.

For me, that would be IT for the company using the product (Tridion Sites or Docs in this case).

Knowing what I know now, at least for Sites, the "Administrators" should be members of the Admin group(s). If the "task" workflow was more popular, I'd even send a task to the admin with the message details.

But nowadays, I'm assuming email or chat integration would be a better way to "contact" an admin.

Some companies have 3rd parties or other externals administering a given system. In that case, admin should be clear based on the given system (whoever you normally ask for system help from for that system).

How do you like the new TranslationZone.com & SDL AppStore design?

Hi community!

Not too long ago we launched a redesigned version of our translationzone.com site. The new design brings a more modern and fresh look and is the result of customer research conducted over the last year. It also features a totally redesigned SDL AppStore, the new home for all Translation Productivity Apps as well as our developer hub. The SDL AppStore replaces the previous SDL OpenExchange site.

So now we are pretty curious in the UX design team, what do you think about it? you like it?

We would love to get a quick rating from you below as well would love to hear your feedback or suggestions!

Hi Marco,

I agree with you and actually had the same problem at first. I thought Language had something to do with the language it was written in despite the fact every website I ever use has that language option at the top! I guess if more options were there in addition to Language then it would make more sense, but this is perhaps a good example of where we use terminology that makes sense to some of us in SDL, but not anyone else ;-)

Yes, I can see them now after clicking on Language. From a translator's point of view, I think they shouild be presented in the default view, without the need to click on Language. Also, if we had to click on Category instead, it would be more intuitive (the user would click to view the available categories), but clicking on Language is really counter-intuitive, I'm afraid. In fact, I couldn't figure out how to show the categories.

Thanks for the feedback. You're right, they were there before. They are still here but there is now an additional level because the store has been designed for other areas of the business. So far we only have apps in here for "Language" so it does look a little odd. But if you click on that you will see the other filters.

Regarding the SDL AppStore I cannot find how to search based on the apps categories (such as terminology, translation memory, file filters, etc.). If I remember well, I've seen those categories in the the AppStore earlier, but I can't find them now. They should be in the Category bar on the left, but currently I can only see this:

The SDL Documentation Center at https://docs.sdl.com allows commenting to logged-in users only. The site has its own username and password, which you can find in the readme.html file of the product's installation media. Alternatively, you can contact SDL Customer Support.

We are working to bring authentication for the Doc Center in line with that of Community, but for the time being, it has a separate set of credentials.

I'm looking forward to your feedback; your input is crucial for improving the quality of our documentation.

How do you add comments to the SDL documentation? I thought I'd note that you have an accessibility issue (labeling search field), as a test of that capability, but I am getting an authentication prompt that an SDL Community login did not pass. We have no end of concern from writers about things they don't understand, in SDL documentation, and in SDL Publication Manager and Web Client, that might be of interest to you. I can see the value of curating public output, and of restricting access. We also have our internal system (quite a bureaucratic one) for mediating technical support issues. But it might be of some interest to you to receive unmediated comments from people working with the interface.

For reference, this is where I thought I might put my comment.

Does SDL Tridion use any CSS preprocessors to generate its stylesheets?

I'm working on a GUI extension and I'd like to work with the CSS that's already provided. But it'd be easiest -- if the CSS comes from a CSS preprocessor -- to just have those pre-processed .less, .scss, .sass, or .styl files.

So does Tridion use a preprocessor. And if so, is it possible to share those files?

I started a question on how Anguilla and Catalina relate to each other: tridion.stackexchange.com/.../46. If allowed, you might be able to use Catalina controls or at least its CSS (maybe).

After a short conversation with Melvin van Mourik the answer is no, unfortunately. The current builds of Tridion use the Anguilla framework, which don't have pre-processors. Catalina is not used extensively in Tridion (yet).

Hey Frank, we from UX are not probably not the right persons to answer, but as far as I know we don't use pre-processors in the Tridion Anguilla framework. We do however use pre-processors in our new UI framework initiative called Catalina. I will ask one of the lead developers to give you a more insightful answer, and maybe share some files.
